Programme for the 2024 Leipzig Veterinary Congress: Comprehensive CPD with New Feature Topics

The Leipzig Veterinary Congress is an absolute must for any vets wanting to stay abreast of the latest advances in veterinary medicine. With over 500 lectures and courses, this highly practical conference programme offers a broad and up-to-date range of professional development opportunities in all areas of veterinary medicine. From 18 to 20 January 2024, the latest advances in veterinary medicine will be in the spotlight at Leipziger Messe in a variety of formats to promote knowledge transfer and dialogue within the industry. New feature topics on the conference programme at this year's event are anatomy and practice management.

"For the 2024 Leipzig Veterinary Congress, we've put together the same high-quality, extensive type of programme you've come to expect," explains Congress President Dr Uwe Truyen, a professor from the Institute for Animal Hygiene and Public Veterinary Services at the University of Leipzig. "Our goal is to provide a perfect range of lectures and exhibits to suit all our participants regardless of their specific discipline or interests and to create opportunities for networking with other professional colleagues. Personal dialogue and contacts are essential elements of the Veterinary Congress that make it a unique event and help participants to gain a deeper understanding and broader view of veterinary medicine."

With over 500 lectures and courses to choose from in every field of veterinary medicine, vets will have a tough time deciding which sessions to attend for their certified further education credits. The scope of information ranges from pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical law to toxicology and from bees, pets, dogs, cats and pigs to ruminants as well as covering ornamental and commercial fish and items of interest for veterinary assistants. The issues that practitioners face on a daily basis are an especially important part of the feature topics. The lecture programme will be complemented by practical, hands-on courses held on the premises of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Leipzig. The full congress programme can be viewed online on the website of the Leipzig Veterinary Congress.

Practice Management in Focus

In 2024, the Leipzig Veterinary Congress conference programme will be even more extensive. The new lecture series on practice management was designed in cooperation with the German Federal Association of Veterinary Practice Management (TPM) and will be held for the first time on 20 January from 9 am to 3:45 pm.

It offers three sessions ("Organisation", "Right in the thick of it" and "Resources and processing") covering topics that affect today's veterinary practices on a daily basis. In addition to looking at organisational challenges, the sessions also place a particular emphasis on the human issues that are becoming increasingly common in everyday practice such as overwhelming workloads, inadequate training, unfriendly and aggressive customers, conflicts and communication traps.

Participants can look forward to lectures on subjects such as "Taking natural rhythms into consideration in scheduling planning", "Preparing your team for night shifts" and "Coping with stressful situations more effectively". The aims of both the TPM and of this new feature topic are to provide a clearer definition of the job of a practice manager, to examine management issues, to provide support and above all, to give a voice to practice managers in the veterinary sector.

Anatomy: You Never Stop Learning – An Interdisciplinary Approach to Practical Challenges

A new component of the conference programme is the anatomy module, which will focus on small animals and horses/large animals. Examples of topics covered include myofascial back pain in horses, the unique anatomical features of alpacas relevant to practice, biomechanical characteristics of the canine sacroiliac joint and the anatomy of the perineal region in dogs.

ICERM 2024: International Conference on Equine Reproductive Medicine

Covering topics ranging from "dual-use stallions" for competition and breeding to research on endometriosis in mares, to the current state of cloning, the 12th International Conference on Equine Reproductive Medicine (ICERM) will be held on 20 January 2024 during the Leipzig Veterinary Congress. Dedicated to reproductive medicine in horses, this event will feature a total of 19 lectures on andrology, assisted reproductive biotechnologies, and pregnant, non-pregnant and peripartum mares. Highlights will include breeding and sports, ovum pick-up (OPU), in vitro embryo production and pregnancy loss. Seven highly experienced reproductive veterinarians from Germany and twelve renowned international researchers are expected to speak at the event.

Pure Innovation & Inspiration

In addition to the extensive range of further education opportunities, the Leipzig Veterinary Congress also includes a trade fair with over 250 exhibitors. The largest trade fair in the field of veterinary medicine in German-speaking Europe, vetexpo offers an attractive exhibition platform where visitors can find out about innovations and the latest products and services. Attendees can also look forward to select lectures and presentations by exhibitors.
